SAFETY SUGGESTIONS FOR DRIVING IN OREGON
Generally, we have found Oregon drivers to be quite friendly and polite in our area. We particularly appreciate their courtesies having come from the "big city" ourselves. We offer the following tips based on our observations of local driving habits.
- Always drive with your lights on, especially during periods of adverse weather.
- Signal your turns far in advance and double check to make sure others behind you
are slowing to stop.
- There are pull off areas provided for slower drivers to use,
(i.e. tourists, motor homes, etc.) which allow others to pass.
- Local Oregonians may pull out in front of you along Highway 101 along the 2 lane
roads.
- There are many visitors and they may stop quickly to turn into a local attraction.
- There are some days where fog is heavy along the coast, even during daylight
hours.
- Passing lanes are provided in some areas, but they also end abruptly as well.
- Many of the small towns that dot the coast have very slow speed limits and they are
strictly enforced.
- Any driver caught drinking and driving must surrender their vehicle to the state on
the first offense.
NOTE: Gas stations along the coast have attendants that will automatically pump the gas for you...just like they used to. You don't even need to get out of your car and the prices are the same whether you pump it yourself or not. Although tips are not
required, we like to show our appreciation for this long lost tradition of customer service!!
